Construction is underway at our Ballard Affordable Housing Program home! Parkview is converting the garage of this home into a studio apartment for a displaced man with autism. Joel Romeo is one of a growing number of low-income people with IDDs facing homelessness as a result of rising rents and lack of stable affordable housing.
It’s our goal to create inclusive affordable housing for people with IDDs and that’s what we’ve done for the past 50 years. Joel is currently living at another one of our AHP homes while his studio is created in Ballard. This home will be great for him as an artist and an important member of the Ballard community. Joel has resided there for the past 20 years and has a built support network of friends that help him to thrive. We’re happy to help create a safe, accessible, affordable long-term housing option for him, and to begin working on other properties that we can renovate to accommodate more displaced people with IDDs.
By partnering with Provail and Arc of King County, Parkview Services is a link in a strong continuum of services that will serve Joel for years to come. Many thanks to the following contractors and retailers that have generously contributed services and materials to this project:
Also, a huge thank you to Joel’s good friend Max and the Ballard community that rallied together to raise over $20,000 for Joel’s new home!
