Stepping Out For Fun
Stepping Out for Fun (SOFF) matches interested volunteers with
people with developmental disabilities to go out and have fun. One of
the goals of SOFF is that volunteers will outgrow their volunteerism and
develop long-term friendships.
The Program
Stepping Out For Fun recruits families, program partners and volunteers.
Volunteers are matched with compatible program participants based on common
interests.
Families
Families participating in the program meet with the volunteer matched
with their son or daughter prior to any arranged activities. Families
provide the volunteer with the necessary information/orientation to assure
the health and safety of both the volunteer and program partner when attending
activities together in the community. Families monitor volunteer performance.

Volunteering For Our Program
Stepping Out For Fun relies on people like you to volunteer with program
participants and their families. You will be matched with a program participant
who shares some of your common interests. Free tickets to fun Seattle
events will be made available. Initially, volunteers should go out with
their program partner at least once a month.
The benefits of volunteering include developing a new friendship, free
tickets to fun activities, flexible volunteer schedules and valuable personal
experience.
Our volunteer application process includes an application form, an interview
and attending an orientation meeting. For the protection of persons with
developmental disabilities, the State of Washington requires Parkview
to conduct a background check on all volunteers.
